Comparative Study of blocking mechanisms for Packet Switched Omega Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Omega Networks are a famous subclass of blocking Multistage Interconnection Networks (MINs). They have been recently identified as an efficient interconnection network for a switching fabric of communication structures such as gigabit ethernet switch, terabit router, and ATM switch. Interconnection network performance is also a key factor when constructing multiprocessor systems. In this paper we are interested in studying the influence of the blocking mechanisms on the main performance parameters of a typical 8x8 Omega Network with finite buffer size queues. We investigate the packet loss probability , the throughput and the latency of an Omega Network using both the Back-pressure and the Block-and-lost blocking Models respectively. This study can be used in future in order to analyse the performance of an actual MIN , where lost packets are resubmitted in the MIN. The strictly non-blocking condition for three-stage networks
A criterion for a three-stage network to be strictly non-blocking is presented which is very general in its application. The criterion distinguishes between channel grouping and link speedup as methods of increasing the bandwidth available to calls. It may be applied to both circuit-switched and packet-switched networks. The non-blocking conditions for various networks are shown to be special c...
متن کاملPerformance modelling of optical packet switched networks with the Engset traffic model.
Stochastic processes have been widely employed in order to assess the network layer performance of Optical Packet Switched (OPS) networks. In this paper we consider how the Engset traffic model may be applied to evaluate the blocking probability in asynchronous bufferless OPS networks. We present two types of the Engset traffic model, i.e. the Engset lost calls cleared traffic model and the Eng...
متن کاملCollision-free Fault Tolerant Multistage Interconnection Networks Based on Wavelength Division Multiplexing
In this paper, the performance of the extra stage Omega (ESO) networks based on wavelength division with limited number of buffers and wavelength converters was analyzed. Since the ESO networks suffer from the problem of internal blocking, therefore, the goal is to minimize the dropping probability by utilizing the available buffers and wavelength converters in the central controller of these n...
متن کاملCross-Layer Radio Resource Allocation in Packet CDMA Wireless Mobile Networks with LMMSE Receivers
Most of previous study of radio resource allocation in traditional wireless networks concentrates on network layer connection blocking probability QoS. In this paper, we show that physical layer techniques and QoS have significant impact on network layer QoS. We define a novel concept of cross-layer effective bandwidth and use this to measure the unified radio resource usage taking into account...
متن کاملDyCaPPON: Dynamic Circuit and Packet Passive Optical Network (Extended Version)
Dynamic circuits are well suited for applications that require predictable service with a constant bit rate for a prescribed period of time, such as cloud computing and e-science applications. Past research on upstream transmission in passive optical networks (PONs) has mainly considered packet-switched traffic and has focused on optimizing packet-level performance metrics, such as reducing mea...
